I started Broken Heart Ceramic Repair after realizing that ceramic pieces hold memories. As ceramicists, we know that when clay is in the malleable stage, it retains memory; this encourages mindful movement when creating a piece, helping prevent cracking or warping as it dries or fires to become ceramic. Once the piece is fired, used, and eventually broken, it is discarded.

People would tell me not to get attached to finished pieces because I could remake them. For years, I’ve held onto this idea. Discarding sentimental pieces because clumsy hands have broken them, and telling myself, “I can just make them again.”

However, in recent years, I asked myself, “Why does the mindfulness of memory go away?”

With this project, I aim to reduce my waste, remain mindful, connect with people & stories, and decolonize consumerism.

Let me help fix a broken ceramic mug, plate, ornament, trinket, or similar item.

We can work together to hold onto the sentimental value and memories a ceramic object holds. Or transform them into something new.
