My mission is for this studio to become a space where people can learn a new skill from me or from other people. A collaborative environment and skill exchange. I don’t want to define the space, rather I want others to do so. Like clay, I want people to mold the studio into what they want it to be for themselves.
For me this space is where I come to be myself. Somewhere that doesn’t ask me to shrink. A place I feel comfortable taking up space. Free to imagine, to create, and to call my own. If this becomes someone else’s feeling, then my mission is complete.
Callejera Studio has been a long time dream that I can’t keep to myself.
Our Mission
The SpaceThe space is free to use; however donations are greatly appreciated. There are small fees here and there, like: firings, clay, and guided workshops. Overall, the space is modelled after a public library. A space where you can exist without purchasing anything.
I know this puts me in a vulnerable position, but I truly want to create a community, I want to connect, I want to talk, I want to cry all over clay. As weird as that sounds.
But the reality is that I signed the lease thinking that it was strictly going to be a personal studio. However, looking at what’s around in San Bernardino, or rather what its lacking, and what I searched for when I was younger, was a place like this.
